This is a story of three sisters who share similar interests, with a strong passion for décor, home styling and events.
Maison Kay was born when all three Kawende sisters got married within a space of 8 months and realised the challenges of planning a wedding, what is known to be one of the most important events of a lifetime whilst also setting up a home to move into after the big day.
Following these extraordinary events, the Kawende sisters thought of ways to help other brides-to-be on how to simplify the wedding planning process, making it a stress free process whilst still achieving the dream wedding.
Décor was a fundamental value in the Kawende home, the sister's love for home design and styling begun well before they ever thought of tying the knot.
From Maison Mère To Maison Kay
- A home like no other -
Maison Kay was originally inspired by Maison Mère, the sister’s family home where their true story begun. Maison Mère means headquarters in French, it is pronounced [M-e-h-z-o-n M-a-i-r-e] commonly known in our community as the ‘mother’s home, it’s basically the ‘spot’ where everyone gathers to chill and have fun, and it was a nickname given by friends and family who loved coming over to the many gatherings and celebrations held at the house. At times this happened almost every week! I know right… it was no joke! So the family home became widely known as Maison Mère, a place of welcome, of laugher, joy and party!
Madame Seraphine also known as Mrs K (the mother of the house) loved hosting and planning events. With so many events happening and numerous guests visiting the house, there was a constant need to re-decorate the home to keep it looking nice, presentable and fresh. There was always a project happening at Maison Mère and the Kawende sisters would jump to the chance of helping their mother plan events, decorate the home and arrange every set up to the very last detail. Little did they know, a passion was being born.
Now, several years later as the sisters create a home for themselves in their married life, they thought of a way to commemorate Maison Mère and this is how Maison Kay was born. The Kawende sisters have embarked on a journey to help others create their own version of Maison Mère, or perhaps just a beautiful place to call home.

is all about helping you enjoy the process rather than being caught up on the stress of planning an event. This way you’ll be able to focus on your occasion and the intimate sentiments behind your celebration leaving all the stressful stuff to us.
Maison Kay has put together numerous packages dedicated to helping all brides-to-be with the entire wedding planning, to their honeymoon including designing and styling the home for the newlywed couple.
